The Republic of San Marino has officially designated the ITS Academy Fondazione G. Caboto as its first Maritime Education and Training Centre (MET), authorized to issue national Certificates of Competency for Masters and Officers serving on commercial yachts under 500 GT engaged in near-coastal voyages, marking a significant step in strengthening the country’s maritime training framework.
The authorization was granted following a comprehensive Flag State audit, during which the San Marino Maritime Administration verified the Academy’s full compliance with the organizational, educational and quality requirements established under the national maritime training regulations.
The approved training programmes fully comply with Regulation II/3 of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), 1978, as amended, and the related STCW Code, ensuring that the professional qualifications issued by the Republic of San Marino are fully aligned with internationally recognized IMO standards.
This important achievement represents another significant milestone in San Marino’s strategy to develop a modern, reliable and internationally recognized maritime education system while supporting the continued growth of the commercial yacht sector through highly qualified maritime professionals.
Rear Admiral (Ret.) Giovanni Greco, Institutional Relations and Maritime Legislation Development, stated:
“The authorization of the ITS Academy Fondazione G. Caboto of Gaeta as the first Maritime Education and Training Centre recognized by the Republic of San Marino represents a strategic milestone in the development of our national STCW framework.
